Area rugs have been utilized for flooring in interior design for doubtless thousands of years now. They are called area rugs usually because they cover one area, not a complete house. Area rugs have been a helpful designing means for millions and became quite various in both the materials they are made from and styles/design. Some rugs are designed by artists and are extremely unique (and quite costly).
You do not need an one of a kind rug to realise your goals. Actually the marketplace for area rugs has been such a success over time that the prices have come down substantially due to manufacturing technologies and demand being met with supply. Though some are made by hand, many are made partially by hand but partially by a machine that automates the jobs after you get it started. This helped lower the cost and make it possible to make one or two actual copies of a great design!
So what are area rugs and why do folk use them? That may be a terribly open stopped question because there are literally thousands of uses from aesthetics to function to protection (of the floor). One of the most popular uses of an area rug is to cover up hardwood flooring or rather to protect the flooring with a thick compact rug that may span as big as a complete room of many alternative sizes. Frequently there is a border left round the fringe rug (showing through the hardwood floors) and the furniture is placed on top of it. This brings a little bit of the carpeted look towards the room, protects the floor, and can drastically improve the feel and look of a room’s aesthetics.
Folk who don’t have hardwood flooring also use area rugs. Regularly an area rug is used to protect a high traffic area (protect the carpet beneath), or to cover up an enormous and ugly stain. In most cases it is a matter of not liking the color or shape the carpet in an apartment, house, mobile home, and even an office that they cannot change so this makes a nice alternative.
Some places have very inexpensive, old, or not very well maintained carpeting. It could have an even cheaper (thinner) insulating layer so walking on it can be tricky on the feet. Walking shoeless on a tough wood floor or a carpet with just about no padding/insulation can end up in back trouble ultimately as this hard surface can take its toll as every step sends a shock up your feet, up your leg, and at last culminating in your back.
By adding some great area rugs to the mix, you can distribute a more even surface between hardwood and the softer, even, softer velvety surface of an area rug. You also get that nice thick padding effect of costly carpet insulation (the pad underneath it that makes your steps squashy) by adding an area rug. On an already nicely padded carpet an area rug can make a “walking on the moon” feel to the room which is fun.
Many of us find that beyond the utility uses of an area rug, the way a rug looks can significantly change the aesthetics and mood of a room. It can bring out features in the room very like a hard wood floor matching the wood beams and trim through a room can bring the whole room together and give it more punch.
It’s even been seen that a miniscule room, with the right size and type of area rug, can basically expand the feeling of space in a room. A dark carpet and light blue walls may create a dark room effect but a light carpet and light walls with some daylight coming into the window or a good halogen lamp can aid the light in the room by not soaking up it.
It also plays tricks on the eyes if certain elements in the rug match certain trim in the room (may be picture frame colors and other common elements found in a room). There’s a growth effect when this happens. By utilizing floor coverings in overall home decor you can create thousands of great effects (not all at once naturally) in the room that may fully change the perception of the room itself!
Another great effect of an area rug is that it’s highly portable. You are not restricted to just having and using one of those. You can grab several or twelve or even more over the years and can switch them out like you’d switch out the paint in a room (only not as messy). If you’ve a dying need for dynamism (a room that changes often to remain looking fresh and exciting), then switching out the area rug can be a great method to simply and quickly give the room a face lift!
